June 6, 2020 – West Bend, WI – To the editor: The recent events across our country are incredibly heartbreaking and justice must be served. In light of these events, I’m writing to share why I won’t be voting for Joe Biden in November.
The facts show that Joe Biden has a history of worsening racial disparity in our country. In an interview with Charlamagne Tha God, Joe Biden highlighted his beliefs by stating, “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t that black.”
Not only is this extremely offensive, because Biden’s explicitly stating he’s the only choice for black Americans, but it depicts his inexcusable misunderstanding of equality in America. Biden has routinely advocated for policies that segregate minorities in this country, dating back to his mass incarceration bill from the 90s.
We cannot continue to elect career politicians like Joe Biden who have contributed to systemic racism in our country, which is why I’m supporting President Trump in November. Under President Trump, who was a political outsider, unemployment among minorities has been at a record low.
We need leaders who are looking to address the issues our country, not make them worse. It’s politicians like Biden who have worsened racial inequality, which has caused tragic unrest across America.
Sincerely,
Maryann Rathke
West Bend
