April 27, 2020 – Kewaskum, WI – A pall fell over the Village of Kewaskum on Monday morning as word spread about the death of James “Jonesy” Korth from Hon-E-Kor.
“He lived in Kewaskum for 71 years and was very active in the community,” said Clark Pearson. “He was one of the people who initiated the youth football program; he was very involved in that and he was assistant coach at Kewaskum High School. He was also in the American Legion and served on the firing squad.”
Korth was in the Marines during the Vietnam War. “I don’t think he ever went overseas to Vietnam but he was very proud to have been in the Marine Corps,” said Pearson. Korth took part in the Stars & Stripes Honor Flight on Nov. 4, 2017.
Probably the biggest legacy will be Korth’s commitment to growing Hon-E-Kor Country Club.
“Bud and Tudy started Hon-E-Kor Golf Course and had nine holes and when Jonesy took it over, he added nine holes and then they added another nine to make it 27 holes,” Pearson said.
Dick Knoebel – “One of the nicest guys I’ve ever known. He was into everything in the Village including the football program and he donated a lot.”
Dave Weitor – “Great guy to be around. He did a lot for the community.”
Ann Enright – “He supported all the athletic organizations at Kewaskum High School including football teams and golf. I don’t think anybody ever even knows how much he contributed because he was so generous.”
Jeannie Goeden – “Jonesy was known for playing Taps at military funerals and I pray they will give him that honor to play Taps at his graveside.”
Dean & Coyla Scheel – “We will definitely miss Jonesy! He was such an inspiration to our son Casey Scheel as a
Quarterback for Kewaskum. He was a great leader to many future Kewaskum high school football players through his volunteer work with Kewaskum Gridiron . To Jonesy’s kids, Kelly, Jesse, Kate & Michael, your dad will be greatly missed!! He was a true friend.

Doug Gonring – “As far as being part of the football program at Kewaskum High School and being part of the Gridiron all those years. Being a head coach at the 8th grade level and then helping out at varsity; he’s mentored a lot of young men through the community. It’s a big loss. Special man to let the kids come up and use the golf course for practice. Really a good man and great to the community.”
Headed up Tuesday night golf Larry Sterr – “Jonesy did a lot with football and I bartended with him at Hon-E-Kor for 15 years and every Friday night he’d be at youth football. Jonesy would do anything for you. Up at the golf course he’d fix anything for anybody with their personal carts. He was very handy. That’s a very tight-knit family.”
Jonesy Korth suffered a heart attack on Saturday and died Monday morning, April 27, 2020. He was 71 years old.

He was quite a guy. Enjoyed my time up at HonEKor . He was always there if you needed something. Hunted with him a few times and he was a real character. Great sense of humor and a real patriot. Pretty good golfer too.
I do not know what to say, I knew his father and him .. I was blessed to know them both and the family is Top Notch. He loved life and his family. I certainly hope he is remembered for all to appreciate. One of a kind.
