The Library Recreation Center will provide a permanent indoor space for the community to use for instructional programs and activities.
The project’s Phase 1 construction will include:
- Infrastructure (HVAC, electrical and plumbing)
- Welcome Area
- Dance and Exercise Studio
- Multipurpose Room
- ADA Compliant Restrooms
The West Bend Community Memorial Library is a regional destination offering more than 175,000 books, ebooks, a digital creation lab, 3-D printer, and exceptional programs and events for all ages.
By fully utilizing this existing, state-of-the-art facility, equipped with handicap accessibility and elevators, the project will focus on maximizing the available basement space.
The recreation center will offer affordable programs, including youth arts and crafts, theatre classes, karate, and will support the West Bend Parks and Recreation dance program that currently has 200 active participants. The center will also support adult dance, fitness, yoga, and active lifestyle offerings.
The City of West Bend Library and Recreation Divisions have pledged more than 60 percent of the dollars needed to begin the bidding process and construction. Phase 1 of the project is estimated to cost $362,000. The remaining project expenses will be raised through continued community fundraising efforts.
“There is a strong need in our community for this multi-purpose, indoor recreation space,” said Parks, Recreation and Forestry Director Mike Jentsch. “This generous Kiwanis contribution will take Phase I to the next step, enabling us to begin construction. We will look to the community to help realize Phase 2.”
