Ozaukee Co., WI – On Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at approximately 3:14 p.m., a WE Energies meter inspector contacted the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office to request a welfare check on a homeowner of a residence located on Woodhaven Drive in the Town of Grafton.
It was reported the house did not have heat, gas, or water, several packages were accumulating at the front door, and dozens of cats were observed inside the residence.
Deputies responded to the residence and made contact with the homeowner, an elderly subject.
After speaking with the homeowner, it was determined that the living conditions were uninhabitable, and that the homeowner was unable to take care of themself or the cats.
The homeowner was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The homeowner provided consent to surrender the cats and remove them from the residence.
The Wisconsin Humane Society – Ozaukee Campus was contacted to take custody of the cats and remove them from the home. In total, 73 cats have been removed.
The Ozaukee County Emergency Management, Ozaukee Central Fire Department, and the Wisconsin Humane Society – Ozaukee Campus assisted with the investigation.
No criminal charges will be issued in this incident, and the case has been turned over to the Ozaukee County Human Services Department.
