November 8, 2022 – West Bend, WI – About $30,000 in damage was caused following a stove fire in a multi-family apartment building in the 200 block of N. University Drive in West Bend, WI on Tuesday morning, November 8, 2022.
West Bend Fire Department said the call came in at 7:39 a.m. with reports of smoke on the second floor. Upon arrival firefighters found items on top of the stove were burning. The fire was quickly extinguished using 5 gallons of water from a pump can.
Damage was limited to the stove top and some cabinets above.
West Bend Fire Department responded along with Jackson Fire Department.
The building did not have fire sprinklers in the living units but there were fire sprinklers in the hallways. The cause was an accidental bump of the knob to start the burner.
Residents are reminded to never store combustible items on the stove. Check the stove periodically to ensure burners are off and have renters’ insurance to cover loss of personal belongings.
