February 9, 2023 – Washington Co., WI – Early Thursday morning, February 9, 2023 at 3:21 a.m. a deputy was parked in a turn-around on Interstate 41 near CTH K when an individual, later identified as a 27-year-old Sheboygan man, drove past the deputy.
The driver stopped and aggressively ran towards the deputy. During the contact there were signs of impairment. The individual was subsequently transported to a local fire department so field sobriety testing could be done out of traffic and poor weather conditions.
During the arrest process, the subject became noncompliant and resistive. He attempted to run in front of a moving vehicle on STH 175 and became increasingly assaultive towards deputies. Deputies were forced to deploy a Taser multiple times to get the subject under control and into restraints.
During the altercation he was yelling at deputies to kill him.
The subject was transported to a local hospital via ambulance where he is being evaluated by Washington County Mental Health Services and will also face criminal charges later.
“These are the types of calls that quickly turn ‘routine’ into life-threatening situations,” said Sheriff Martin R. Schulteis. “I am please the subject, and our deputies, were not hurt and the individual will have the opportunity to receive much needed mental health services.”
