January 5, 2021 – Town of Polk, WI – In early December 2020 the Washington County Sheriff’s Office reached out to the community seeking public assistance with a hit and run to a pedestrian accident that occurred on December 4 on CTH Z north of Cedar Creek Road in the Town of Polk.
During this incident, an excavating worker was struck by a passing vehicle.
We received several tips in direct response to our social media post. These tips provided valuable information that led Washington County Sheriff’s Office investigators to the 39-year-old suspect and his 2003 Toyota Camry in the City of Oshkosh.
The suspect admitted to being in the area at the time of the crash and said that he thought he had hit a traffic cone. The investigation revealed that he had struck a cone, construction trailer as well as the pedestrian. The damage to his vehicle was not consistent with only striking a cone. The suspect had the missing mirror replaced. Charges are being requested against the suspect for Hit and Run Causing Injury.
Washington County Sheriff Martin Schulteis was pleased with the outcome made possible by community partnerships. “This case illustrates the close working relationship we have with the citizens and local businesses within our community. By utilizing social media, we have a direct, accurate and real time line of communication to the public. This allows us to keep the public informed and gives them a direct communication link back to us and the result, in this case, speaks for itself.” The Washington County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend our gratitude to all the citizens and local auto businesses who assisted in this investigation.
