On February 5, 2024, at 12:43 p.m. a West Bend Police officer assigned to the West Bend High School advised there was a physical altercation occurring between two 16-year-old female students. West Bend Police repeat, the department “maintains a ZERO TOLERANCE approach to violence or threats of violence in any school setting. All acts of violence or threats of violence will result in an arrest. If you observe any violence or threats of violence, SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING and contact a school official or the police department at 262-335-5000.”
Questioned about the “zero tolerance” policy within the WBPD and how it does or does not impact the school district, Lt. McAndrews said, “We can’t control what the school district does with its discipline or whether the student is allowed back into school or not. We request charges, once that’s concluded that’s the police department’s job.”
Questioned whether police could request stiffer charges, Mc Andrews said, “No, law enforcement requests charges for the violation of law that occurs.”
Questioned whether police keep in mind repeat offenders, McAndrews said, “That’s not a law enforcement decision – that’s a judicial decision.”
