June 5, 2024 – Fond du Lac Co., WI – On Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at approximately 12:11 PM, the Fond du Lac County Communication Center received several 911 calls reporting a single vehicle motorcycle crash on I-41 southbound just south of Townline Rd, in the Town of Friendship, Fond du Lac County.
Initial reports advised that a motorcycle had gone off of the highway and the operator had not been wearing a helmet.
Fond du Lac County Deputies along with North Fond du Lac Fire Department and Ambulance, Van Dyne First Responders, and ThedaStar Medical Helicopter responded to the scene.
The driver, a 56-year-old male from Winneconne, was flown by ThedaStar to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah with serious injuries.
Initial investigation indicates the motorcycle was traveling southbound on I-41 and lost control. The motorcycle entered the median gravel shoulder, struck the cable barrier, fell onto its side, and slid across both lanes of I-41 southbound.
The driver slid with the motorcycle across I-41 and both the motorcycle and driver came to rest in the west ditch of I-41 southbound.
It was confirmed the driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Failure to maintain control and speed appears to be the factors in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office. The driver was cited for reckless driving.
One lane of I-41 southbound was shut down for approximately one hour.
