1 man arrested following stabbing in Dodge Co., WI | By Sheriff Dale Schmidt

January 31, 2025 – Dodge Co., Wi – Authorities from Washington County and Hartford Police assisted Dodge County Sheriff’s Department with a stabbing incident this week in the town of Herman.
At 9:20 p.m. on January 28, 2025, deputies were dispatched to an address on County Road S near County Road U, in the town of Herman, Dodge County, Wisconsin for a report of a stabbing.

Law enforcement responded to the scene and learned a 23-year-old male from the town of Herman had his thumb nearly severed by a 32-year-old man, Gilmer Echevarria, who also has been residing in the town of Herman.

The victim exited the residence and was met by responding deputies who provided him with medical treatment before he was transported via ambulance to Aurora Summit Hospital.  Initial investigation showed the assault stemmed from an argument between the two men.

 

Deputies from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and Washington County Sheriff’s Office along with officers from the Hartford Police Department stabilized the incident and eventually, Gilmer Echevarria was taken into custody and booked into the jail on charges of First-Degree Reckless Injury/Great Bodily Harm and Substantial/Aggravated Battery.

He was also booked into jail on an outstanding warrant.  All persons are innocent until proven guilty in court.  The victim was also taken into custody, following appropriate medical treatment, and is being held in the Dodge County Jail on warrants.


It has since been discovered that the suspect in this incident has no legal status in the US.  Gilmer Echevarria is a Nicaraguan who already has immigration proceedings occurring. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency has been made aware, subsequent to his arrest.  This is the second serious incident that occurred this week in which a subject with no legal status has committed serious criminal infractions in Dodge County.
