Letter to the Editor | Vote April 1, District 1 alderman in Hartford, WI | By Tom Pechacek

March 3, 2025 – Hartford, Wi – My name is Tom Pechacek, and I am running for Alderperson in Hartford, District 1. I decided to run due to the pending vacant seat by Alderman Joe Fulop, which was the impetus for me to get involved with local politics and to be a part of the quality of life in Hartford.  Plus, being retired, I have the time to fully invest my skills and talents into this office.

Letter to the alderman

My background is 30 + years in city government [City of Milwaukee] with the last 15 years as the Electrical Services Operations Manager / DPW / Infrastructure Division. I was responsible for 9 departments and 9 talented subordinate managers with a staff of over 200 very adroit people. My departments engaged in the construction and maintenance of the approximate 82K street & alley lights, the over 750+ controlled intersections, all the city’s buildings wiring, the city’s communication system, city street signage, pavement markings, underground manhole / conduit system, a machine shop and the underground locating [Hotline] services.

Further, during my employment, I interacted regularly with all the Alderpersons, their staffs, the mayor’s office along with many, many citizens.  I’ve done a plethora of Town Hall meetings and neighborhood walks with the elected officials and their constituents.  During those events I fielded lots of questions regarding my department’s activities and the department’s responsibilities. Know too, Electrical Services is a 24/7 operation, and I did indeed field phone calls at all hours of the day and night from many of the individuals just mentioned.

In 2017 I received accolades/recognition from the Milwaukee Press Club’s event as one of the city’s “Superheroes” because “he answers his phone at all hours of the night to keep the lights on for the city. Described as caring, honest, and reliable.  He’s credited with always going the extra mile to answer citizen’s’ concerns.”  And although I preferred to remain in the background, it was nice to be recognized for my years of dedication.

Over my many working years, I experienced a gamut of government, both good, bad, and really bad.  I feel that these years of experiences and observations afford me the needed skills to avoid poor municipal management decisions with a goal of being a solid and transparent leader.  Also, I feel my strong conservative ethos will help me bring the best to the City of Harford by making good choices for the community.

Additionally, I’m currently the Vice Chair on the Board of Directors for Prime Financial Credit Union, which is an enhancement of my understanding of fiscal management and the financial institution’s operations.  I am a State certified Master Electrician, and I also have a degree in Business Management.

Lastly, I’m an uber conservative and when working, I took my fiduciary responsibilities toward the taxpayers seriously, which I insisted my staff do as well.  These important values / concerns for the taxpayer will always be a top priority for me along with providing any needed support for the Hartford Police and First Responders because of the quality of life they provide and the importance they bring to our community. I am qualified for this position, and feel if elected, I could enhance an already skilled Common Council.

Respects,

Tom Pechacek

Aldermanic Candidate, District 1, City of Hartford
