Hartford Union High School Announces Angie Hall, Teacher of the Year | By Teri Kermendy

Angie Hall grew up in Antioch, Illinois with her mother and two brothers.  Angie’s mother was a single mother who was driven to continue her education.  Angie remembers her mother working two jobs while putting herself through school to get her masters degree as well as her teaching license in the field of science. Even though she did not use her teaching degree and stayed working as a biochemist, Angie realized the importance of continuing to grow to better her future.  Sports have always played an important role for Angie.  It was not until high school that Angie developed a passion for teaching Health and Physical Education.  Mr. Wapon was her Physical Education teacher as well as her coach.  Lacking an adult male role model in her life, Angie leaned on Mr. Wapon to fill that void.  He helped her in more ways than he could have imagined and lead her to the passion she has for teaching.

Angie Hall is a 2003 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Whitewater.  She received a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education along with a licensure in Health, Coaching, and Adaptive Physical Education.  She continued her participation in athletics throughout her collegiate career lettering all four years, and was named an Academic All-American Gymnast in 2001.  Angie fell in love with UW-Whitewater and began to help out in the community.  She coached the recreation gymnastics program, was student assistant coach for the UW-Whitewater gymnastics team, and supervised the William Center.  After teaching for a few years, Angie continued her education by earning her masters degree from University of Wisconsin La Crosse in Adventure Education.  She continued to enhance her learning by receiving licenses with the American Red Cross in Standard First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Instructor, Water Safety Instructor, and Life guarding Instructor.

Angie began her teaching career as a long term substitute at Arrowhead Union High School and also accepted the position of Head Gymnastics Coach.  The following year she was hired at Hartford Union High School as a Physical Education and Health Teacher.  Angie fell in love with the community and moved to Hartford in 2006.  Angie primarily teaches Health, Foundations of PE, Life guarding, and Specialized PE.  She also serves as the Department Chair and has for the last 10 years.  Angie was able to be part of two new opportunities at HUHS.  She led the first online health course as well as the Cohort Program.  She is lucky to have the support of the board, administration, and community to enhance the programs and help students reach a high level of success.  She has also coached Track, Gymnastics, and Golf for HUHS. After 10 years of coaching, Angie decided to put that aside to spend more time with her family.

Angie is supported by her family, especially her husband, Michael.  They have two beautiful children, Hayden (10) and Henry (7).  Angie now helps coach her children’s athletic activities as well as volunteer at the Recreation Center.  Angie’s passionate about teaching and loves working with the staff at HUHS.  She works with dedicated and talented colleagues who keep pushing her to be better every day with student needs at the center of her decision making.  Angie loves what she does and is very thankful for her wonderful department members and Cohort family.  Angie is very honored to be selected as the educator of the year for 2018-19 school year.
