Weekly updates from Hartford | By Steve Volkert

May 3, 2019 – Hartford, WI – On Friday afternoon, representatives from the different communities which are all a part of the Mid-Moraine Municipal Court will be interviewing candidates for the open judge seat. This seat became open when the current judge won both the County Judge seat in Ozaukee Co and Mid-Moraine Municipal Court. The new judge will be appointed this term and will run in the next Spring election.

Arbor Day Celebrated in Hartford

Members of local Cub Scout Pack 3794 joined City Forester Dave Scharfenberger and Park & Rec Director Mike Hermann planting three trees at Woodlawn Union Park in recognition of Arbor Day. One of the annual requirements in order to qualify to be a Tree City community is to hold an Arbor Day Tree planting. The group planted a Triumph Elm, Hackberry and Tulip Tree. None of these trees had been growing in Woodlawn Union Park. Planting tree varieties not only adds diversity but it hopefully limits extensive future large scale maintenance cost and work should/when the next disease/bug infests a particular tree.

Drug Take Back fosters successful results

225 pounds of unused prescription drugs were taken in to Washington County authorities from the Hartford Police Department drug collection box. This box, located inside of the Police Department lobby, was emptied this past weekend as a part of the national Take Back the Drugs Day. Since 2015, we have collected and destroyed over 1421 pounds of unneeded prescription drugs keeping them off the streets.

This week’s Bring Your Dog to Work Day Dog

Michelle Wirth brought in our Friday, Dog of the Day for United Way. Dozer is a teddy bear and is 8 years old. He is an energetic replacement child for Brian and Michelle. He chases deer and rodents, including skunks, (we can only hope he learned a lesson with that type of critter). He loves sitting in his own chair, outside on his driveway, with his Dad soaking up the heat, and watching traffic go by along Monroe Avenue.

Every week, employees are allowed to bring in their dog with permission from fellow workers and a $5 donation to United Way.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

The Hartford Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association would like to thank the many people that came out and supported their annual brat fry for the K9 Unit at Fox Brothers Piggly Wiggly on Saturday. The team made more than $4,100 in five hours. This doubles the amount that they successfully brought in last year. Those in attendance not only got some of the best brats, hamburgers and hot dogs known to man, they also saw demonstrations from our K9 – Cash, along with a demonstration on the new drone which the Police Department purchased which will have many applications for several departments.

Summer Activity Guide now out

The Hartford Park and Rec Summer Activity Guide has been sent out filled with all of the activities for residents and non-residents. This summer will see many of the same activities that people have come to enjoy every summer along with several new activities to get all ages off the couch and outside during this coveted time of the year. If you have not gotten one of the new guides, stop by the Hartford Rec Center and pick one up.

Earth Day Observed

Staff members from Thomas Orthodontics did an Earth Day project last week that involved trash pick-up in the park and along the river from Willowbrook Park to Rotary Park. Thegroupispicturedonthe bridge in Willowbrook Park. Thanks for helping make Hartford an eco-friendly community!

Hartford Fire & Rescue hold successful training

Members of the Hartford, Iron Ridge, Neosho and Ashippun Fire Departments conducted a training exercise on Saturday, April 27. Dark smoke could be seen for miles as crews divided the donated house into sections of different fire scenarios. In the end, the entire structure was burned with crews on the scene. Our thanks to the public works crews, engineers and outside groups which helped make this a safe training exercise for firefighters and drivers alike.
