Nov. 29, 2016 – West Bend, WI – UW-Washington County’s Moraine Chorus will present a winter concert on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. in the campus theatre. The chorus is directed by Dr. Peter Gibeau, Professor of Music at the campus.
Admission to the concert is free, although a free-will offering will be collected for the West Bend Full Shelf Food Pantry.
Works performed include the Kyrie and Gloria from Mozart’s C-minor Mass, with soloists Deanna Gibeau, soprano; Kathryn Flynn, mezzo-soprano and a music major at UW-WC; and Matthew Peterson, tenor.
The chorus will be accompanied by a string quartet and organ. Besides the Mozart, the chorus will perform a cantata by the North German Baroque composer, Joachim Gerstenbüttel, a work performed 300 years ago.
The work was forgotten until Professor Gibeau transcribed it from a handwritten manuscript and brought it back to West Bend. The last two works are lighter in nature and include “Irish Tune from County Derry” aka “Danny Boy,” arranged by Percy Grainger, and “The Wexford Carol,” sung by the chorus, with soprano Michal Gerard.
The Moraine Chorus is a mixed ‘communiversity’ chorus consisting of community members and UW-WC students. The Chorus rehearses weekly and welcomes new members. For more information, contact Dr. Peter Gibeau, 262-335-5216. UW-WC is located at 400 S. University Drive in West Bend. Free parking is available.
